He was an American Astronomer, Cosmologist, AstroPhysicist, Astrobiologist,Author, science popularizer, and science communicator.He , right from his boyhood days, wanted to know about the stars and explore the unknown worlds! One of his legacies left behind for us is the urge to ask skeptical questions. He often said, "Science is more than a body of knowledge, Its a way of thinking , Its a way of Skeptically interrogating the Universe with a fine understanding of human fallibilities." Sagan wrote many popular books , such as Pale Blue Dot, Contact, Billions and Billions, and narrated and wrote the award winning 1980 television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.The most widely watched series in the history of American Public television. Cosmos has been seen by at least 500 million people across 60 different countries.Sagan always advocated Scientific Skeptical Inquiry and the scientific method, pioneered Cosmology and promoted the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence(SETI).To say the least, he inspired an entire generation of curious minds to look up and wonder our place in the Cosmos. He died at the age of 62 on December 20th , 1996 in Seattle after suffering from Myelodysplasia followed by pneumonia.
